RB.03.12.2013

The couple of this spawn is an F1 from an orange male coming from Indonesia bred by Joty Atmadjaja (1st classified in the class D3 in Ranco 2012 at the II IBS) crossed with a female from my red line. They are brother and sister, really big and vital fish, almost 14 months old now, I hope they are going to be good parents.

The Sire:

The male is an orange dark body plakat with a strong body and a nice finnage. It arrived second in Dortmund this year.  The size is impressive, it has one or two broken rays in the dorsal and the anal caudal fin could be bigger, so that the anal fin would look more balanced, but overall I really like this fish.

The Dame (sister of the male):

The female is a light orange fish with color loss on the body (marge effect). I like the contrast in color, the vitality and the unusual pattern. The anal fin is a bit too long but I hope I will be able to work on the F1..

The couple has been conditioned with frozen artemia and live bloodworm for 2 weeks before spawning. Here two videos:

The breeding will be performed in a standard manner, see method described here

RB. Betta macrostoma

Here some photos to document my experience with Betta macrostoma. Their story is quite simple. I bought a couple in June 2013 from Riccardo in AIB (thank you again for this magnificent fish Riccardo!), I prepared a well-planted aquarium with conditioned RO water at pH 5.5, conductivity 150 µS/cm and T = 23°C. I have been feeding them with all kind of food (dry, frozen and live). Since the first day the male has been always with eggs with 2-3 days pause between the spawns. He has carried on 4 spawns up to now. I thought these are difficult fish, but it is exactly the opposite, I literally do not know where to put them now. Contact me if you are interested :)

The Sire (obviously with eggs):

The Dame (a giant of almost 17 cm):

RB.24.11.2013

The couple of this spawn was bought with the excuse of helping our Italian association since someone ordered the couple but changed mind at the last second. I always had an interest in black dragon and I was happy to get the fish. They were acquired by TMT bettas at the market in Thailand but the breeder is unknown. The fish look like a brother/sister couple but I have no real proof.

The Sire:

The male is indeed interesting. The size is unfortunately not so impressive and the body is short for my taste but it is a good start for my work.

The Dame:

About the female I like the strong color and the broad dorsal.

They couple has been conditioned with frozen artemia and live bloodworm for 2 weeks before spawning. Here a video of the couple:

The breeding will be performed in a standard manner, see method described here

In this particular case the fish were put in the plastic tank the 22.11.2013. The temperature of the water was perfect but the male was not building a nest. I changed half of the water on the 23.11.2013  with RO water. The couple was spawning today, 24.11.2013. The female laid some eggs. Finger crossed.

RB.18.11.2013

The Sire of this spawn was a gift from the amazing breeder and great friend Joep. I believe it comes from the spawn described here. The female derives from a spawn of may 2013 between the 2nd classified in the class D5 at Ranco 2013 and a marble female from Sarawut. Her father (DT geno) derives from a female of my red line crossed with a great DT male that my friend and sublime breeder Alberto gave me at the end of 2012. You can see two videos of her father when it was young here and here. The dame of the present spawn won a prize at the Betta Freaks Dortmund 2013 (5th classified female PK).

Here photos of the grandparents from the mom side:

The Sire:

The male is a blue marble/koi medium size fish. About this male I like the very strong body, and the compact finnage. Although the color is not my favorite it is my intention to bring compact finnage and strong body to my line which has long finnage. The koi/dotted aspect of this marble color could be interesting to follow in future generations

The Dame:

The female is a marble multicolor red/orange/blue quite big fish. About this female I like the strong body, the unusual color and the compact anal fin.

They couple has been conditioned with frozen artemis live bloodworm and "Biofish food regular L" for 2 weeks before spawning. Here some videos of the couple:

The breeding will be performed in a standard manner, see method described here

In this particular case the fish are put in the plastic tank the 16.11.2013. The temperature of the water was hot  and the male was not building a nest. I changed half of the water on the 17.11.2013 and on and decreased the temperature to 27°C. The couple has spawn on the 18.11.2013. The female laid very few eggs, the male was a bit of a lazy father but today (24.11.13) I counted some 10 fry. The father took care of the eggs bud did not make a very foamy nest. The fry were free swimming on the 22.11.13, the male was removed on the 22.11.13. The little ones are fed with live artemia and micro worms. There are very few.

RB.27.10.2013

The background of this spawn dates back to 2010. You can find some infos here
The Sire and the Dame are brothers coming from this line born on 25.04.2013. In between one male from Jiri Bosina (which was coming from a spawn with a fish coming from Joep who won a first place at the HBS2012) was crossed in the line.

Some photos of the Sire who won the BOS in Dortmund 2013 and was the Betta of the month on Bettas4all:

About this male I like the body, the dorsal fin projecting toward the front and the nice overall balance. The caudal spread is impressive and the broad dorsal is interesting since in theory there is no DT blood in this line.  Weak points are: the length of the anal fin (that could be shorter), defects in the color (the red is not fully distributed and there is metallic in the caudal), some bent rays and a little defect in the line of the head. Portament and the aggressiveness are good (see the video below).

The Dame (a spawn sister of the Sire):

About this female I like the strong body, the well spread anal fin. The dorsal fin has misses some rays in the anterior part and the head has a small bump but overall is a very nice fish.

They have been conditioned with frozen artemia and "Biofish food regular L" for 2 weeks before spawning and kept at 22°C. Here one video of the couple before putting the fish together:

The breeding will be performed in a standard manner, see method described here

In this particular case the fish are put in the plastic tank the 27.09.2013. The temperature of the water was too hot for CTPK (29°C) and the male was apatic. I have changed half of the water on the 28.09.2013 and on the 29.09.2013 and decreased the temperature to 27°C. The couple has spawn on the 30.09.2013. The female made her own nest and was safeguarding some of the eggs for a couple of days, but eventually she was removed. The father took care of the eggs bud did not make a very foamy nest. The fry were free swimming on the 31st, the male was removed on the 2.10.13. The little ones were fed with live artemia and micro worms. There are not many small ones, but hopefully enough for keeping this line.

Update today 24.11.13, I could count at least 20 small ones growing happily:

RB.17.09.2013

The genetic behind this spawn is quite simple. The Sire and the Dame are brothers from a cross obtained from two fish that were both a kind gift of two of my dearest friends. The grandparents were respectively a metallic HMPK male (that is still in my fishroom and I will add as a photo soon) which was a gift from my dear friend Roberto Silverii and the female was a mustard gas female, coming from the fishroom of the "Best European Breeder" Alberto Montalbetti. I will contact them soon in order to trace more carefully the genealogy of these two lines, possibly with photos.

Some photos of the Sire:

About this male I like the very strong body, the short anal fin, the dorsal fin projecting toward the front and the nicely distributed teal-metallic color.  The overall balance is not bad and the line of the head is smooth. Weak points are: the shape of the anal fin (that could be more trapezoidal), defects in the color (white scales in the head and two shades of blue in the fins). The caudal fin could have slightly longer first rays and shorter, ideally more full ventral fins. Portament and the aggressiveness are good (see videos below).

The Dame (a spawn sister of the Sire):

About this female I like the strong body, the short anal fin and the color. The dorsal fin has short rays in the anterior part and the ventral fins are double but overall is a very nice fish.

They have been conditioned with live food (bloodworm, grindal and white mosquito larvae), frozen artemia and "Biofish food regular L" for 2 weeks before spawning. Here two videos of the couple before putting the fish together:

The breeding was performed in a standard manner, see method described here

In this particular case the fish were put in the plastic tank on the 17.09.2013 and the female was released the same night before the light went off. Early in the morning of the 18.09.2013 the fish spawned few hours after the light went on. The male was very protective and kept moving the nest in different places from time to time. After the 20.09.2013 there are several small ones eating artemis.
